Engage and convert

The Winged Beast

In order to understand the playing field between conservatives and liberals it is important to dissect the interworking of the liberal platform.

Here’s my casual observation.

There is a core platform in the liberal phenomena that may have started as far back as Woodrow Wilson. Over time the liberal structure developed two wings. One wing is the tactical group while the other is the marketing group.

The tactical group assumed the function of manipulating the territory to fit their best interests. This included creating and holding district lines that kept the conservative voice in check. Other strategies include employing legislative loopholes contrary to the Constitution and earmark funding to sway the votes in their favor.

Meanwhile the marketing arm of the liberal movement took positions in major media outlets, formed community organizations with persuasive leaders, and sought disenfranchised and poor Americans to cultivate.

The tactical arm and the marketing arm came together to ally with powerful unions. The liberal movement, utilizing the unions as one of its bountiful hosts, was able to leverage the money and power by the union organization itself, while cultivating sympathy with its members.

The tactic and marketing model of the liberal movement originally happened almost by accident. But when they came to realize they were gaining ground, they became organized and powerful. Capitalizing on the codependent nature of their relationship, they were able to keep the message of dependence and suffering alive. Not unlike the ant and the aphid that yields a honey-like substance on which the ants feed.

“Winning!”

Now is the time to recast the dichotomy of left and right. If it cannot be seen as a competitive setting, the conservative will continue to do its Rumpelstiltskin routine. The yelling and vitriol that makes us look powerless and repugnant will have to stop. It is time to take a mature, strategic position. We will have display our sophistication and calm. When confronted with severe opposition and baseless ideology, restraint and calm is the order of the day. Listen and show interest in your subject as he or she espouses their liberal wisdom. Show interest. Do not stand in front of them. Stand beside them to reduce the sense of confrontation. Be courteous and kind. Smile. Breathe.

After the liberal bloviating has finished, invite them to hear you out and ask their opinion along the way. Remain firm and respectful. Remain calm. Invite them to visit with other conservative folks. Preplan this meeting and make sure that the conservative members are on board. This may require a few anger management courses but the benefits could be robust.

Behind the Scenes

Start a sub-marketing campaign that showcases the falsehoods and spin of the left while keeping yourself insulated from the ‘anonymous’ publisher.  Make sure you are relentless in showcasing the lies and spin of the left while never revealing the source (you).
When the liberal complains either face-to-face or by blog, respond with empathy as you ask your subject why the publisher took such a position.  Allow them to go through their repeated and tired talking points. Don’t get mad and respond. Ask them if it would be ok to team up and investigate the accusation of falsehoods. Make the playing field feel level.

Work it!

My son told me over dinner the other night that if the liberal mind has pure dislike and contempt for the Tea Party, then change the name of the Tea Party and continue the work as he cited the name change from ‘liberal’ to ‘progressive’. (a 17 year old)
Create new organization names that portray something pleasant such as relating the term CRUSH to the wine country.

Create the pyramid

Do you want it or don’t you?  Conservatives often take the starving musician’s mentality. “We are what we are and you are wrong”. How can one change another’s mind if they are not allowed to at least take a peek at the offering?  It will be impossible to engage, convert, and indoctrinate if they are dragged kicking and screaming to conservatism.

Create the conservative pyramid that allows a place to get on. Your work to convert can start later. A conservative pyramid could look like this: Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh position 1, Sean Hanity, Glenn Beck position 2, Bill O’Reilly and Britt Hume position 3, George Stephanopoulos and John Stossel position 4, Geraldo Rivera and Joe Scarborough position 5. And so on. (perhaps a bad example but you get the idea)

The key is engagement. Without it the definition of insanity will prevail ~ Albert Einstein once said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

Israel halts cash to Palestinians after Hamas deal

May 01, 2011 12:14 EDT
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel has suspended tax transfers to the Palestinians, its finance minister said on Sunday, fearing the money will be used to fund Hamas after President Mahmoud Abbas struck a unity deal with the Islamists.
The Palestinian Authority (PA), led by U.S.-backed Abbas, asked foreign powers to stop Israel from blocking the transfers, which make up 70 percent of its revenues. A senior Palestinian official said Israel, by its action, had "started a war."
Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said he had suspended a routine handover of 300 million shekels ($88 million) in customs and other levies that Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinians under interim peace deals.
In an interview on Army Radio, Steinitz said Israel feared the money would go to fund Hamas, an Islamist militant group that runs the Gaza Strip and whose charter calls for the destruction of the Jewish state.
Israel had threatened sanctions last week in response to Abbas's surprise announcement of a unity deal with Hamas that envisages the formation of an interim government and elections later this year.
Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said the PA was "in contact with all international influential forces and parties to stop Israel from taking these measures."
"Threats ... will not deter us from concluding our reconciliation process. It is our policy and we must work harder to end our divisions as soon as possible," added Fayyad.
The PA is also heavily dependent on aid from donors including the United States, which has said its future assistance will depend on the shape of a new Palestinian government, expected to be formed under the unity agreement.
Hassan Abu Libdeh, the Palestinian economy minister, told the Maan News Agency the PA would be unable to meet its commitments, including paying the salaries of its employees, if the transfers were blocked. The PA pays salaries to around 150,000 people in the West Bank and Gaza.
ISRAELI OPPOSITION
In public remarks to the Israeli cabinet, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his opposition to the unity pact and said the reconciliation should worry "all those throughout the world" who aspire to Middle East peace.
"Peace is possible only with those who want to live in peace with us, and not with those who seek to destroy us," said Netanyahu, who travels to Britain and France later this week for talks with their leaders.
Palestinian leaders have been invited by Egypt to Cairo for a three-day ceremony starting on Monday that will end with the signing of the unity agreement, Palestinian officials said.
Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said it could take up to six weeks to form a new government. He said it would be made up of independents with no connection to Abbas's Fatah movement or Hamas, and foreign states should have no reason to boycott it.
Hamas is shunned by the West over its refusal to recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept the interim peace accords.
U.S.-backed Israeli-Palestinian talks on a permanent peace agreement were revived in September but quickly fizzled after Netanyahu refused to extend a limited building moratorium in Jewish settlements in the West Bank, territory Palestinians want as part of a future state.
Abbas has said he would return to negotiations only if construction in settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, areas Israel captured in a 1967 war, was halted. Netanyahu has said that is an unacceptable precondition for talks.
The tax transfers provide the PA, which exercises limited self-rule in the West Bank, with $1 billion to $1.4 billion annually. Saeb Erekat, a senior Palestinian official, said that by withholding the money, "Israel has started a war even before the formation of the government."
Steinitz noted that Israel had held back tax revenues in the past, during a Palestinian uprising that began in 2000.

China army warns over Ai Weiwei image in Hong Kong

China's army has warned that an image of detained artist Ai Weiwei, briefly projected onto a Hong Kong barracks amid a campaign in the territory for his release, was illegal, a report said on Saturday.

New Yorkers Protest China's Imprisonment Of Artist Ai Weiwei
Apr 17, 2011 - Manhattan, New York, U.S. - Thousands of supporters of Chinese artist Al Weiwei gathered along Tasty Wooden Chairs-an installation which was comprised of 1001 late Ming and Qing Dynasty wooden chairs at Documenta 12 in 2007 in Kassel, Germany-in front of Chinese embassies and consulates around the world. Artist and activist Ai Weiwei is an internationally regarded figure who has fought for artistic freedom and for freedom of speech throughout his distinguished career, envisioning and shaping a more just and equitable society through his work. He has been missing since his arrest on April 3rd in Beijing.
An artist calling himself Cpak Ming displayed an image of the dissident's face with the words "Who's Afraid of Ai Weiwei?" on the barracks, police headquarters and other buildings this week, the South China Morning Post said.
A spokesman for the Hong Kong garrison of the People's Liberation Army told the newspaper: "No one can paint or project pictures and images onto the outer wall of the barracks without the garrison's permission.
"Such an offence is a breach of Hong Kong law. The PLA reserves its legal rights."
Residents of the semi-autonomous south China territory generally enjoy civil liberties not seen on the mainland, including freedom of speech, under the "one country, two systems" principle in place since Britain handed the city back to Beijing.
More than 1,000 people took part in a protest march a week ago demanding the release of Ai, who was detained in early April in Beijing for unspecified "economic crimes", sparking worldwide condemnation.
Supporters say the detention of the outspoken critic of China's Communist Party leaders is political and forms part of a crackdown on dissidents in recent weeks, under which scores of lawyers and campaigners have been held.
A rash of stencilled, painted graffiti in Ai's support has also appeared on the streets of the financial hub this month and is under investigation by police as a possible case of criminal damage, the Post reported.
The man responsible for the "flash graffiti" projections of Ai could not be contacted via his Facebook page, the newspaper said.
He has uploaded instructions to the social networking site so that Ai supporters could create their own displays.
Legislator Ronny Tong Kun-sun, a barrister, said he could not see that the projections broke the law.
"He is just expressing his opinion in a very short period of time and poses no permanent damage to the building," he told the paper.
The PLA -- the world's largest military force -- established bases in Hong Kong in 1997 when the territory ceased to be a British colony.

OIL COMPANY ROLLING BOYCOTT

This is a rolling boycott to send a message, loud and clear to the oil companies that we are not happy. Now it must be understood that this protest will affect the local gas station owner. For that we feel for you. But you chose the product that you sell and we as Americans are afforded the freedom to choose. And today we reject the rising price of fuel. Today we stand together as American consumers with our collective voices and those voices say NO! We will NOT be held hostage by the oil industry and here is what we will be doing:
Mayday – Each gas station will be boycotted for two weeks starting May 1, 2011 at the strike of 12:01 AM. Patrons will drive by and on to the next gas station. True, ‘the next gas station’ may see an increase of volume during our protest. However they are next in line. This is all about working capital and cash flow. How long can YOU hold on without selling a drop? We’ll find out as this dips into your required regulatory compliance expense. It will be the responsibility of the station owner to contact their supplier. It will be the supplier’s responsibility to contact the manufacturer (the oil company). Don’t mess with us. We are not amused.

TAX DAY - TAX REVOLT - TAX SPENDING

I’m doing my taxes using TurboTax Home & Business. It is a truly amazing product. But that’s not really the point. I run a small business in California which is a double-whammy. Now that the entire United States of America has become California, paying these taxes is more repugnant than ever.
Why do I have to go through this exercise? I will be doing this for hours or I could hire someone to do it for me. Neither should be in play. Since taxes are imposed and the penalties are harsh we are all stuck doing the paperwork weather itemized or not. It feels like there is a fee to exist. ‘The Existence Fee’
Currently business is slow. The days of Regan-2-Bush-2-Clinton are over. George Herbert Walker Bush however strong on foreign policy, gleefully signed off on any expensive bill that landed on his desk. I respectfully disagreed with the Fanny / Freddie / TARP spending. I respectfully disagreed with the health care bill. I respectfully disagreed with the propping up of the unions, namely SEIU. They should have all been left to implode and languish. Small and large businesses have the wherewithal to adjust and change to survive. In a capitalist setting the economy has the ability to replant for next year’s crop. D.C. is completely clueless on the inner workings of capitalism. In fact they are showing that they despise capitalism.  This is known as ‘biting the hand that feeds you’.
So let’s get back to my point about the awful process of doing my taxes. Why am I doing this? What have I purchased for this amount of money? I see only one thing that makes filling out these forms and paying this kind of money palatable; our men and women of the armed services. They are the most honorable government employee in history. They are under paid, overworked, and have a lackey retirement program. In contrast, those big-bellied, booze swilling, pasta eating, woman-renting, 10-hours-a-week working, bloviating, useless, self righteous apparent humans in D.C., who claim to represent our best interests are sitting back comfortable being serviced by their SEIU enabled workforce. The bulk of our tax dollars are going to them and their ridiculous pet projects. So here I am hunkering down as I navigate through a horrible economy and I have asked for nothing from the Fed or the State. Nothing! I’m on my own out here and so are you (who seek nothing from the government).
In a nutshell:
Show up to the Tax Day Rally down town. It’s the least you can do.

LYNN WOOLSEY OWES ME $700

In 1988 I retained Lynn Woolsey to find me a candidate technician for my new company. She had me sign a contract and pay her a deposit.
Upon a phone call she advised me that she had just the person. Lynn and I came to an agreement that if it did not work out that I would lose my deposit but would be able to recover my placement fee. Lynn touted this potential employee as a rock star and would put my company on the map.

The gentleman was a great person, well organized, and had excellent people skills with my customers. Here's the deal; he knew nothing of my industry and there was a serious and expensive training curve.

So in a nutshell... a great guy but not a fit.

Now the costs that I had incurred at such an early era in my business (having an inexperienced employee recommended by Lynn), put me in a position that it would be more prudent to wait another year before hiring.

When I called Woolsey Personnel Service  I repeatedly got Lynn's answering machine (sound familiar?). So I went ahead and stopped by to ask for my $700 back and to cancel the deal. She became very terse with me and demanded that I hire another one of her recommendations. I declined and she became very snarky with me. She said she will not be paying me back the $700 and accused me of not sticking with her original recommendation.

Rather than stand in her doorway of that little office on Redwood Way, Petaluma, and listen to the endless excuses, I chose to leave and follow up later.

I made three more phone calls. Just an answering machine.

In summary. Lynn has an entitlement mentality and will take what ever she can, leveraging any position to do so.

Great to have Lynn representing herself and not We the People. Now give me my $700 back!

This is the way I see it.

I will let you know if she unleashes her bullies on me.

Anti Conservative Regulation? Maybe.

1. Environmental Protection Agency drafted a new mandate to regulate nutrients in Florida's rivers, lakes and streams. These standards would impact Florida and no other state, setting higher standards for runoff water than for drinking water.

2. Water cutoff in Central California that impacted hundreds of thousands of acres of productive farmland, leaving farm laborers unemployed and caused a rise food prices nationwide.

What do these two regions have in common?

They are predominately conservative.

Any other suspicious bullying?

There are more examples if you'd like.

CALIFORNIA HARDER TO DO BUSINESS IN THAN OTHER STATES

Gov. Brown are you listening?
Almost 9 out of 10 (87.7%) executives at California companies that operate in several states say California is a harder place to do business, according to a survey by the California Foundation for Commerce and Education.
